MERMAID'S DELIGHT ART OPENING

Anita Tavernier, has been inspired to do island art for the last 27 years. She has been called "pomaika'i." with her reverence and connection to the aina, spending a lot of time exploring the reefs, and being blessed by multiple encounters with the spinner dolphins and pueo.

She was given a Hawaiian name by her Lomi Lomi Massage Teacher, the late Papa K, which translates: "Woman of the Waters who Kisses the Sand Beneath the Rainbow." Ka Wahine o ke Kai Honi ke Oni Mahalo o ke a nue nue.

Her creativity has evolved through phases of photography, digital art, watercolor and oil painting. She loves making ipu ( carved and dyed gourds); being taught the traditional Ni'ihau method by her kipuna, Cindy Whitehawk.

In addition, Anita plays multiple instruments, loves landscaping, gardening and travel, sings and plays on the worship team at her home church, is a great cook, and loves rocking at Open Mic here at Gertrudes as well as Randal's Thursday Uke Group at Old Airport.

It is with gratitude that she shares her work here, having come a LONG WAY from the inner city high school teacher who spent 10 yrs teaching special ed and biology in The Bronx!
